About Us & Our Family Journey
Maybe it’s just in our imagination. Maybe it’s for real. Our 20 years of journey together was anything but typical. It’s an adventure. From closest friends and relatives to those who only knew about us, many wondered countless times “what the heck are they doing with their lives?!”
We were both raised to follow the normal path. And success, in the conventional sense, appeared to be our destiny. Then life throws curve balls especially when one keeps stepping up to the plate and slugging away. Early on we found out that settling for what is ordinarily available is no way to live.
So for 20 years, settle we didn’t. Although tough to let go of whatever it was we already achieved, we welcomed many changes. Sometimes begrudgingly. We jumped all in from those relatively small moves such as shifting from an academic career to climbing the proverbial corporate ladder, to big ones such as migrating to North America. Each one brought challenges that made an impact on our growing family. And almost in every case we pause to ponder, “is it worth it?”
Blogging and introspection
Midway through our life together, blogging in 2009 became a way for us to reflect on the past and define what we really want for our family. Among other reasons such as the change explained by Josephine, we resume blogging as a way to review and also to cast a bigger vision of our family’s future. We now involve our kids as they start to find their own way into the world.
Blogging/writing has a way of clarifying what’s in our minds. This is very important because we found out as we grow that thoughts become our reality. Therefore, this exercise of reflection and visioneering is imperative to live a life by design and not by default.
Perhaps you found this blog because you are also seeking like-minded travelers in this fascinating adventure called life. By traveling alongside each other, we may find support, advice, or even just a pat on the back from someone who understands. A few words of encouragement such as “it’s gonna be alright” can make all the difference as we encounter the unfamiliar, even the untested ways of doing things…ah the price of breaking away from the pack.
Come and join us. Let our journey begin anew.
