The Change

  • Change triggers our deepest fear.
  • Written by Josephine Facundo, published November 25, 2018 in Family Life By Design.

Inspired by the quote from Marianne Williamson, shared by Henry, my hero and anchor of the family, a new journey begins. Change is imminent to avert the danger of not realizing our full potential due to the lures of timidity and hunger for social acceptance.

Our deepest fear

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ― Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”

From these very powerful and insightful words, we decided that it is time to share relevant aspects of our family life. Our intention is to touch more lives as others might see possibilities from how we live ours.

We have always strived to be audacious with our goals and have been blessed abundantly. But little did we know that keeping all these to ourselves because of fear that others won’t like us anymore. This includes our fear of comparison, of overshadowing them, or being judged as show-off. This fear has kept us playing small. Marianne Williamson perfectly expressed it in the quote above. She was spot-on. Indeed this is enlightening for us.

Facing our fears

Except for a few Facebook posts every now and then, the family is relatively silent about our affairs. But this is about to change. We understand that as we allow ourselves to be seen, we embrace vulnerability. We are now taking the risk of losing the comfort of privacy and the possibility of getting hurt emotionally.

However, we know that this is our chance to inspire others. That is, at least those who read our blog and watch our videos to find their own spark and be secured about their own self. Embracing vulnerability as studied and shared by Dr. Brene Brown is the core. It is the heart… the center of meaningful human experience and we subscribe to that.

Family Mission Statement

So why are we so concerned about our impact on other people? It is our family mission to inspire others to enjoy life as we do. It is a huge part of our quest for significance, as clearly stated in our mission statement.

The Change. Our Biggest Fear. Our Family Mission Statement
Our Family Mission Statement
We are committed to developing a nurturing family environment, full of unconditional love and understanding, that supports each member to achieve his/her full potential and to enjoy a happy and healthy life. For we are blessed abundantly, we selflessly share our blessings to others, thus inspiring them to lead happy and healthy lives as well.

Yes, we have a Family Mission Statement formulated 8 years ago, on my birthday. If you don’t have one yet, start formulating yours. It will provide you with a sense of direction as you traverse the many road options in your life journey.
